Fed: National holiday road toll nine after crash in Victoria
SYDNEY, Dec 23 AAP - The fatality toll on the national roads during this holiday period
stood at nine after a crash in central Victoria and the overturn of a semi-trailer in
northern New South Wales today.
NSW police said the semi was travelling along the Bruxner Highway near Casino shortly
before 3pm when it left the road and overturned, crashing the cabin and killing the driver.
In Victoria, a 24-year-old man was killed after he lost control of his car and crashed
into a power pole on Rendells Road near Waaia, police said.
It was the first fatal accident on Victoria's roads in the two days of the Christmas
season so far.
Yesterday, five people lost their lives in New South Wales and one was killed in South Australia.
A man was also killed yesterday in a single-vehicle accident near Mount Tamborine in
Queensland's Gold Coast hinterland.
(Eds: National road toll figures are for the period 0001 December 22 to 2359 January
