I READ the report about singer Fauziah Latiiff helping Palestinian children and I admire her for risking her life by going there to do humanitarian work ("Gaza experience moves singer Fauziah" - NST, Aug 19).

It made me reflect on the fact that we are so lucky here in Malaysia. We live in peace and harmony. Whereas the Palestinians are not sure whether they will be able to see a tomorrow.
It is through God's grace that Malaysia is blessed with peace and the people live in harmony. But, at times, we forget that there are poor people in our country, too.

The report mentioned that if each Malaysian contributed RM1, we could collect RM27 million. Imagine what this money could do.

With this money, we could help eradicate poverty in our country. An honest accountant should be entrusted with keeping track of how this money is disbursed.

The RM1 that every Malaysian gives would be helpful to the poor. While it won't be easy to implement, it could make a big difference.
